Chief Minister Chouhans message to the people of the state

Bhopal 08 August 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that due to heavy rains in the last few days, floods have caused havoc in many districts of northern Madhya Pradesh, especially in Gwalior-Chambal division and Vidisha. The rainfall was not ordinary either. Never seen such rainfall. Sheopur district alone received 101 cm of rain. It never rained more than 30 cm till this time. Shivpuri recorded 99 cm of rains. The rain broke all the records. Due to this terrible rain, the rivers got flooded. Such an influx has not been seen in this century. Villages after villages were destroyed. Houses were drowned, animals were washed away, people were caught in the flood. When the water receded, thousands of houses turned into a pile of rubble at many places. The household was destroyed. Crops were damaged. The infrastructure collapsed. Roads broke down. The power sub stations were submerged. At some places even the bridges were washed away. Never seen such a terrible tragedy.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that as soon as the disaster came, I also became active and the administration was also active. Ministers reached their areas in the districts of their charge. I spoke to the Prime Minister several times and the Prime Minister also called. Air Force helicopters were dispatched immediately on our request. Six helicopters of Air Force, BSF personnel, Military jawans, Army, NDRF teams were sent. Our SDRF team also did a great job. Police administration, lower level employees, many youths, social workers were engaged in rescue works. My brothers and sisters, I also kept monitoring the rescue work day and night. I also went to see the condition of the flood affected areas. The damage has been great. But there is one thing of relief that we were able to save the lives of people. About 8 thousand 900 people who were trapped in the flood waters at different places, some were sitting on the island, some were sitting on the roof of the houses, some were on the temples, some were on the trees. Air Force helicopters, Army jawans and SDRF personnel along with our police personnel rescued the people and succeeded in saving them from drowning in the middle of the water. During this, 32 thousand 900 people were evacuated from the floods to higher places, shifted to relief camps. We saved lives but could not save goods. The households were destroyed, the goods were destroyed, the goods kept in the shops were also destroyed, the things inside the houses got spoiled, the works and businesses were ruined.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that there is no need to despair my sisters and brothers, we have immediately engaged in relief work. I have formed a task force of 12 ministers for relief work. The officers of all the major departments are involved in it. I myself, a team of ministers and officials will mobilize for relief works, aid, rehabilitation and reconstruction works. Crisis Management Committees will also provide support. We immediately tried that at least those whose everything was ruined should get food. Arrangement of food, provision of clean drinking water is our priority. We are engaged in this work. We have decided to give 50 kg ration to each flood-affected family immediately in addition to the regular ration that they get. They are reaching you too. Where possible, we will try to send flour after grinding wheat so that food can be arranged immediately.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that a provision of Rs.6 thousand has been made as immediate relief for those whose houses have been completely destroyed, so that if they want, they can stay in a rented room for a few days. Also, the amount of relief will be given under RBC 6-4 for those whose goods kept in their homes have been destroyed, after surveying. My brothers and sisters, whose houses have been washed away, have been completely destroyed, do not be discouraged, money will be given for the construction of their houses. On the lines of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, we are making arrangements to give about the same amount, so that your house can be rebuilt.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that if any brother and sister died due to floods, financial assistance of Rs.4 lakh would be given to their families. Assistance will be given to those whose cattle, cows, bulls, buffaloes etc. have been washed away. We have decided that for those milch (cow-buffalo) animals have washed away, a relief amount of 30 thousand rupees will be given. For the non-milk animals, a relief amount of Rs.25 thousand will also be given. Many poor families also do goat rearing. If the sheep and goats have been washed away, then we will give a relief amount of Rs 3,000 and if the little kid of the goat is drowned, then Rs 250 will be given for that as well. If the rooster and chicken are washed away, then an amount of 60 rupees will be given as relief. If the goods kept in the shops are destroyed, then after assessing the damage, they will be given some relief for that too.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that after assessing the damage to crops due to floods, relief amount would be given for that too. If a fisherman's boat has been washed away or completely destroyed, then 12 thousand rupees for him, if anything like row is washed away or destroyed, then an amount of 4 thousand rupees will be given for that also. A relief amount of Rs 4,000 will be given on partial damage to the boat.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that many types of infrastructure have been destroyed. Right now our priority is to restore the power system on a war footing. Because many stations, sub-stations have been submerged, poles have bent, transformers have been destroyed. Where there is no water there is no problem, but in many places water is filled, there we will have to wait for the water to recede. But the power system has been restored in other places. We have made efforts to make temporary repairs of the roads. To ensure that pure drinking water is available, drinking water sources should be repaired, PHE employees have been involved in this work on a war footing. We will leave no stone unturned to make all necessary arrangements.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that I know you have suffered. The pain is deep, the challenge for the government is also big, but our courage is also big. There is trouble, there is hardship, there is crisis, but we will take you out through this crisis. Don't worry sisters and brothers, these difficult days have come in our lives, but we will take you out of this trouble soon. Will restore normal day.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that I want to appeal to all the social workers and donors that service to the suffering humanity is the biggest virtue. “Parit Saris Dharma Nahi Bhai” and so do whatever you can for your suffering brothers and sisters. Chief Minister Chouhan said that once again I want to request my suffering brothers and sisters that don't get discouraged, don't bring tears to eyes, don't panic, we are together, we will come out of this trouble together. The government stands with you, the administration stands, the society stands. This night will be dark, it is my belief that we will overcome this crisis – Window to News
