Central team to call on Chief Minister Chouhan on Tuesday
Bhopal 16 August 2021: An Inter-Ministerial Central Study Team led by Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is on a visit to the flood-affected areas of Gwalior and Chambal divisions on Monday and Tuesday to assess the damage caused by heavy rains and floods in the state. The study team members include Barnwal along with Deputy ECO Abhay Kumar, Agriculture Director of Madhya Pradesh Dr. A.K. Tiwari, Superintending Engineer, Water Resources Department, Manoj Tiwari, Regional Officer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Jaipur, D.K. Sharma and Under Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, R.K. Shrivastava.
The first team of the team divided into two parts, today visited Dabra-Chandpur of Gwalior division and Kotra, Sunati, Andora, Kharonaghat in Datia district. The second team inspected Shyampur, Ochhapura, Dhodhar, Manpur and Sheopur in Sabalgarh.
On Tuesday, a group of the study team will inspect Bhitarwar, Sila, Paladha, Khyavada, Panghata, Pulha Sehore and Shivpuri’s Raipur, Harai, Barkhedi, Koopreta and return to Gwalior. The second team will inspect Sheopur’s Premsar, Utanwada, Alapura, Mundla, Aavada and Sheopur.
Central team will call on CM Chouhan
The central team will call on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Mantralaya at Bhopal on Tuesday at 7 pm after inspecting Chambal and Gwalior divisions. Revenue and Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput will also be present in the meeting.
Estimated damage of about Rs 2 thousand crores
As many as two thousand 444 villages of 9 flood affected districts have been badly affected by floods and excessive rainfall. According to preliminary estimates, crops have been completely destroyed in one lakh one thousand 669 hectare area. About 57 thousand 527 houses were washed away or got completely destroyed in the floods. Apart from this, government property worth Rs 1735 crore 50 lakh was damaged. This includes government buildings, roads, power supply infrastructure, forests, bridges, dams apart from many irrigation projects. Apart from this, food grains worth more than Rs 2 crore 50 lakh including government fair price shops got destroyed in the flood water. The food grains kept in the warehouse were also affected by the flood in large quantity.
Relief-rescue work undertaken on war footing
It may be noted that heavy damage has been caused to government and public property due to heavy rains and floods in nine districts including Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Datia, Ashok Nagar, Sheopur, Bhind, Morena and Vidisha districts of Bhopal divisions and 8 districts of Gwalior and Chambal divisions in the period between July 31 and August 6. In the relief and rescue operations carried out on war footing, 9334 residents of these districts were rescued and 32 thousand 960 people were rescued.
A total of 21 thousand 555 people were provided shelter in 161 relief camps set up to provide quick relief to the people affected by floods and excessive rains. Help was taken from 6 columns of Army, 6 helicopters of Air Force in the relief and rescue operations. Apart from this, assistance was taken of 8 NDRF units, 29 SDERF teams, 61 Home Guard teams, police forces of all 9 districts affected by excessive rains and floods and 478 civil defence volunteers.
Detailed survey of damage being carried out
At present, a detailed survey of damage to the physical infrastructure is being carried out in the areas affected by excessive rainfall and floods.
