Bhopal 27 August 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the activities conducted in the state for the conservation of forests and wildlife are also favourable for the local residents. Along with tiger conservation, continuous efforts should be made to control forest crimes by continuing similar systematic operation of Cheetah Reintroduction Project and related activities. The 13 accused of the international wildlife smuggling gang have been punished with rigorous imprisonment for seven years and fine by the Special Court Sagar. Chief Minister Chouhan congratulated the Forest Minister and officers of the Forest Department for this.

Chief Minister Chouhan was addressing the 21st meeting of Madhya Pradesh State Wildlife Board at the Chief Minister's residence today. Forest Minister Vijay Shah and Board members NS Dungriyal, Eric D Cunha, Sushri Vidya Venkatesh and Ravi Singh were present in the meeting.

Tell the local residents the benefits of the Cheetah Reintroduction Project

Chief Minister Chouhan also described as commendable the activities like development of facilities for tourists in three tiger reserves Panna, Satna and Bandhavgarh in the state, awareness campaign under Cheetah Reintroduction Project in Sheopur district and cycle tour under ‘Buffer Mein Safar’ programme. Chief Minister Chouhan said that the benefits of the project should be told to the local people in the Cheetah Reintroduction Project area by conducting a campaign. The Forest Department should give information about how employment opportunities will be developed for the local forest dwellers and other residents. The Forest Minister informed about the proposed guide training session in the context of the Cheetah project. Various activities will be conducted during the week starting from 1st of November, the state's foundation day. One day the cheetah will be associated to conservation.

State tops in tiger conservation

All India Tiger Estimation Year 2022 is starting in the state. Chief Minister Chouhan said that tiger deaths should be monitored in the state due to mutual conflict or other reasons in the forest area. Efforts should be made that Madhya Pradesh remains a leader in the field of tiger conservation in the country. It was informed in the meeting that National Tiger Conservation Authority and International Rangers Association have rewarded the efforts of tiger conservation in Sanjay Tiger Reserve. Forest Guard Babunandan Singh was honoured on International Tiger Day. Satpura Tiger Reserve has also received Earth Hero Award. Chief Minister Chouhan said that Satpura forest area is wonderful. The biodiversity here is unique. The work of its promotion should also be done continuously.

Chief Minister Chouhan directed to preserve the ancient archaeological heritage in the forest areas on the suggestion of board member Dr AB Srivastava. As suggested, conservation work was agreed in consultation with experts regarding the oldest rock paintings and three monuments in the Satpura forest area. In the meeting, discussions were held regarding de-notification of the partial area of​​the sanctuary for the protection of the wildlife of the National Chambal Sanctuary as well as for the livelihood and sand supply system of the local forest dwellers. Similarly, it was agreed to take necessary decisions regarding notifying the reserved forests as proposed sanctuaries after consultation with the local public representatives. It was decided in the meeting to grant necessary permissions for various communication and road works in Ghatigaon Hukna Sonchidiya Sanctuary, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Singhori Sanctuary, Kanha Tiger Reserve and Bagdara Sanctuary in Gwalior district.

The meeting also approved the proceedings of the board's meeting held on May 27, 2021.
