163 oxygen plants became functional in the state

Bhopal 18 October 2021: As many as 163 oxygen plants have been set up in various hospitals in Madhya Pradesh to ensure local availability of oxygen. These plants have an capacity of 182 metric tonnes of oxygen production per day. With this, 9145 patients can be treated by supplying oxygen at the rate of 10 liters per minute if required. Due to the tireless efforts of PM Care Fund and state government in the state, the work of setting up 202 Oxygen Generation Plants was started after facing oxygen shortage during the second wave of Corona. The remaining 39 oxygen plants will be set up this month.

MP becoming self sufficient in oxygen

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Madhya Pradesh is fast moving towards becoming self-sufficient in the field of oxygen with the cooperation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the second wave of Corona, oxygen was imported from other states to save the lives of Corona patients. Chief Minister Chouhan said that for the local arrangement of oxygen in Madhya Pradesh, the availability of 30 thousand 291 oxygen cylinders has been additionally ensured in the government hospitals for the establishment of the plants. He said that as of March 2020, oxygen generation plants were not available in any government hospital in the state. As of today, 163 oxygen plants have been started in different districts of the state. Rest of the plants will also be set up soon. About 230 metrics medical oxygen can be generated per day from all these 202 plants.
The work of setting up 88 oxygen plants from PM Care Fund, 13 from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and 101 plants through other various means like the Health Department, CSR and local efforts was started from last May in the state. Today Madhya Pradesh is fast moving towards self-reliance by setting up 163 oxygen plants.

Oxygen storage facility

At present 360 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen storage facility is available in the government medical colleges of the state. Apart from this, liquid oxygen tanks (total 248 metric tons) of 6 kilo litre capacity are being set up in 34 district hospitals of the state. Availability of 13 thousand 956 oxygen concentrators in government hospitals and 1350 in medical colleges has been ensured. Apart from this, the Government of India has also allotted 3860 concentrators in addition to the oxygen concentrators given earlier.

ICU, HDU, Oxygen Supported Beds

As many as 11 thousand 156 oxygen supported beds were available in health institutions under the Health department as of June 2021. The state government has given approval to convert 3099 additional beds into oxygen supported beds, in which about 2000 beds have been made functional, remaining beds will be completed this month and will be made functional. By the end of this month, 14 thousand 255 oxygen supported beds will be available in health institutions under Public Health and Family Welfare Department.
A total of 785 ICU, HDU beds with ventilators were functional in all the districts of the state as of June 2021. A total of 650 new ICU, HDU beds have been sanctioned in 41 health institutions, out of which construction of 200 ICU, HDU beds has been completed. The construction of remaining ICU, HDU beds is in its final stage. This way, now 1435 ICU, HDU beds will be available in health institutions for the treatment of patients.

In addition to the 210 paediatric ICU beds available in the district hospitals, 310 new paediatric ICU beds were approved. Of these, the construction of 100 has been completed while the remaining are in the final stage of construction. By the end of this month, 520 Paediatric ICU beds and 992 Paediatric Oxygen Supported Beds will be available in health institutions under Public Health and Family Welfare Department for the treatment of infants – Window to News
