Bhopal 09 January 2022: Governor Mangubhai Patel has said that winning or losing does not matter in sports. Life is a game. That is why playing is very important. Sports play an important role in life. Sports are essential for mental development along with a healthy body. Playing brings sportsmanship. A positive attitude and outlook towards life is developed.

Governor Patel was addressing the players and sports lovers by distributing prizes of Association of Indian Universities, West Zone Inter University Badminton Competition. Director Sports and Youth Welfare Ravi Kumar Gupta was also present in the closing ceremony of the competition in the Sports Prashal of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya.

Governor went to the injured player to reward

Governor Patel encourages the players by coming forward. In the prize distribution programme, when he came to know that Riya Kunjer, a member of the team of Savitribai Phule Pune University, who won the silver award in the women's category, has been injured. Because of this she has not come to receive the award. Governor Patel immediately went to the ambulance and honoured her with a silver medal. It is noteworthy that Vivek Sagar and Aishwarya Pratap Singh, the participants of the state's Olympics 2020, were also honoured by inviting them to the Raj Bhavan.

Games strengthen the spirit of cooperation

Governor Mangubhai Patel said that the aim of education is all round development of students through academic, intellectual, moral, social and physical development. Academic and sports activities are equally important for holistic education. That is why sports have been promoted in the new education policy as well. Sport brings people together. It strengthens the spirit of helping and cooperating with each other. Playing assures success through cooperation, discipline and consistent efforts.

Government and society's attitude towards sports changed

Governor Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji gives a lot of encouragement to sports. It was during his tenure as Chief Minister that "Khelon Gujarat Abhiyan" was started for the first time. The Prime Minister has changed the attitude of the government and society towards sports. Sports for All and Sports for Excellence have been promoted by Khelo India Scheme. The Fit India Movement has included exercise in the daily routine of the common man for a better and healthier life. In order to find young talents of the country, sports talents of disadvantaged and remote areas have also been given new opportunities by starting Khel Talent Portal. It is the result of his efforts that the country has won seven medals in Olympics 2020 for the first time. Giving best wishes to all the players of the competition for a bright future, the Governor presented gold, silver and bronze medals to the winners.

Vice Chancellor Sunil Kumar informed that 614 players from 133 teams from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh participated in the competition. He said that the university is trying to introduce new courses integrating sports and technology.

The Governor honoured Barkatullah University, Bhopal with gold, Savitribai Phule Pune University with silver and Devi Ahilyabai University Indore with bronze in women's category. In men's category, Savitribai Phule Pune University was awarded gold, Devi Ahilyabai Vishwavidyalaya Indore with silver and Shivaji Vishwavidyalaya Kolhapur with bronze medal – Window to News
