Bhopal 10 January 2022: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the Horticulture Department should take the "One District One Product" scheme seriously. He said that farmers associated with horticulture should also be given adequate training for cultivating the identified produce. Chief Minister Chouhan was reviewing the schemes and programs of Horticulture and Food Processing Department in Mantralaya. Minister of State for Horticulture, Food Processing (Independent Charge) and Narmada Valley Development Bharat Singh Kushwaha, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains and departmental officers were present.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that nurseries should be made demand driven. He said that emphasis should be laid on growing such plants in the nurseries which are in demand. It was informed by the department that horticulture nurseries are being developed on PPP mode. Under this scheme, 137 horticulture nurseries have been established through self-help groups. Chief Minister Chouhan said that the state has a leading position in the country in the production of garlic, ginger, chilli, coriander and other spice crops. Farmers involved in the production of spice crops should be encouraged. Processing units of spice crops should also be set up. Chief Minister Chouhan also stressed on setting up of cold storage to preserve horticulture crops. He also talked about connecting horticulture farmers with natural and organic farming. Chief Minister Chouhan also appreciated the programme of the Horticulture Department to connect the farmers of Bundelkhand with the cultivation of betel leaves. The department is connecting one thousand farmers with betel cultivation.

It was told that 100 percent girdawari would be done in 20 Adarsh ​​development blocks. Girdawari will make it possible to estimate production, consumption and savings. This will facilitate creation of storage capacity and setting up of processing units. Additional Chief Secretary Horticulture and Food Processing JN Consotia joined virtually and informed about the implementation of programmes and schemes included in the Atma-nirbhar Madhya Pradesh road map of the Horticulture Department. He said that the process of recruitment of 179 rural horticulture extension officers is being started by the department for better implementation of the schemes.
