R-Day celebrations conclude with ‘Beating the Retreat’ with Governor Patel as chief guest

Performances of Police Brass Band enthrals
Bhopal 29 January 2022: This year’s Republic Day celebrations came to an end here with Police band performances including a fusion of Indian classical music and western music in the Patriotic Song fusion, melodious and touching patriotic songs left the audience mesmerized at the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony organized at Motilal Nehru Stadium on Saturday evening with Governor Mangubhai Patel as the chief guest. The entire stadium was drenched in bright lights at the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony. Meanwhile, colorful fireworks scattered beautiful colors across the sky.
It may be noted that the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony is a long ancient tradition of Para Military Forces. When troops returned to their camps after the war, a recreational band programme would be organized to reduce the tension of the war. The programme marks the end of the Republic Day celebration in India.
The Beating the Retreat programme began with honouring the Governor Patel. After this, Brass Band, Music Band, Pipe Band and Army Band of Madhya Pradesh Police gave a beautiful collective performance. Amidst the performances, a fascinating march past enthralled everyone. Delightful melodies of Patriotism, film songs, Indian Classical Music, Indian Raga and Western Classical Music were played by the Police Brass Band. There were melodious musical performances of songs from Hindi films. This was followed by band wise group presentations by all the bands followed by march past. Musical performances of Police Brass Band were held under the leadership of Inspector Sunil Katare. In the end, the band marched to the tune of ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha’. It ended with the national anthem and attractive fireworks.
Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Director General of Police Vivek Johri, Additional Chief Secretary Home Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Special Director General of Police S.A.F. Milind Kanaskar, Pawan Jain besides police officers witnessed the grand and fascinating ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony.
Captivating performances
‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony was presented by the Police Brass Band. 60 Jawans took part in the concert. Similarly, there were 89 in display, 20 in bugle playing and 5 in the performance of the pipe band. Initially there was a Quick March presentation followed by melodious tunes in Fusion Patriotism. Then a musical performance of songs from new and old Hindi films was given by Police Brass Band along with Hindi and English classical tunes. These include ‘Hansta hua noorani chehera’ from Hindi film Parasmani and ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ and ‘Teri Mitti Mein Mil Jaavan’. Later in the noon performances included fun fair quick march, slow march, drummers call and drum roll.
Madhya Pradesh is the only state in the country to organize “Beating the Retreat” programe, where every year on January 29, the police organize a programme in the capital Bhopal.
