Increase investment in tourism sector and provide employment to youth: CM Chouhan

Bhopal 14 March 2022: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that efforts should be made to give concrete shape to the proposed development schemes to boost up the tourism sector in the state. Work should be done expeditiously for the construction of necessary infrastructure in the existing developed tourist places as well as in the new tourist places. Efforts should be made to increase investment in tourism sector. Tourism development activities should be conducted with a view to give more employment opportunities to the youth. Exploiting the tourism potential of the state will be beneficial for the people of the state.

Chief Minister Chouhan was addressing the meeting of Board of Directors of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board at Mantralaya today. Tourism and Culture Minister Sushri Usha Thakur, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary Tourism Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary Urban Development Manish Singh and other officials were present.

Public must be connected through religious and spiritual tourism

Chief Minister Chouhan directed to explore possibilities of tourism development through various festivals at places of religious and spiritual importance in the state. On March 1, on Mahashivratri, temples and river ghats in Ujjain were decorated with earthen lamps. Similarly, on the coming 10th of April, Deepotsav will be organized in Orchha, the city of Lord Rama Raja on Ram Navami. Chief Minister Chouhan directed the Tourism, Culture Department as well as other allied agencies and district administration to start preparations for it. In Chitrakoot also, instructions were given to prepare a framework for a special programme in the morning on Ram Navami. Chief Minister Chouhan said that people had lit earthen lamps with enthusiasm in Ujjain. Orchha’s Deepotsav can also be made special through coordinated work. Chief Minister Chouhan also directed to determine the nature of programmes to connect more number of common people with Khajuraho festival and other programmes.

Efforts to promote investment in tourism sector in Madhya Pradesh

Chief Minister Chouhan sought information about investment efforts in tourism sector. He directed to increase employment generation from allocated assets out of heritage assets. It was informed that a grant of Rs 104 crore has been given for 79 tourism projects in the state. A total investment of Rs 1517 crore has been made, through which more than 22 thousand persons are getting employment. A land bank of more than one thousand hectares has also been prepared. Five heritage properties have been allotted. These include Rajgarh Palace in Khajuraho, Govindgarh Palace in Rewa. Mid-way treat, high-way treat are running successfully in collaboration with the private sector. About 3 thousand people are getting employment from them. 75 Road Facilitation Centers have been developed in the state. 15 road shows have also been organized to promote investment in tourism sector.

Film Tourism Policy

Chief Minister Chouhan said that shooting of films in the state gives opportunity to young aspiring artists and other works related to film-making and it also provide more employment opportunities. It should be encouraged. Principal Secretary Tourism informed that activities are being conducted under Madhya Pradesh Film Tourism Policy-2020. So far, about 200 films, serials and web series have been shot in the state. Madhya Pradesh has participated in 6 national and international level film festivals. Cooperation is also being given in the promotion of tourist places of the state through film projects.

Adventure & Water Sports Tours

Chief Minister Chouhan directed to increase water sports tourism activities at Hanuwantia and other places in Madhya Pradesh. About 50 camps have been organized for adventure activities. More than twenty thousand tourists have been linked to camping and adventure activities. The benefit of training in power boat operation and live saving is also being given to the youth. Licenses have been issued for water tourism activities after completing the necessary procedures.

UNESCO selects Gwalior and Orchha

Gwalior and Orchha have been selected by UNESCO in the Historic Urban Landscape Recommendation. The work of zonal master plan for eco-sensitive zones of 27 national parks and wildlife sanctuaries of the state is underway. An initiative has been taken to include Orchha, Mandu, Satpura National Park and Bhedaghat in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Efforts are also being made for ropeway operation at Omkareshwar and Salkanpur through PPP model, Museum of Music at Gwalior, City Museum at Bhopal and Pre-Historic Park at Bhimbetka. The Diamond Museum in Panna and the Geological Museum in Jabalpur are being operated in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines.

Instructions issued for development of tourist destination Kukru

Chief Minister Chouhan told to increase the works related to tourism development in Kukru, a beautiful natural place in Betul district. Many tourists from Maharashtra apart from Madhya Pradesh come to visit this place. In the coming time, this place can become popular as a tourist destination like Pachmarhi. In the meeting information was given regarding home stay project, tourist destination project for women, rural tourism, skill upgradation and training of tourism department staff, district tourism action plan in districts, various webinars conducted during the Corona period, participation in travel marts and exhibitions at international level, promotion of monsoon tourism, heritage run, Jal Mahotsav, Khajuraho dance festival, Mandu festival etc – Window to News
