Make people self-dependent by mobilizing financial resources
Governor launches voluntary conference for participation in development

Bhopal 08 April 2022: Governor Mangubhai Patel has said that voluntary organizations should come forward as catalysts in their efforts to remove poverty by connecting the poor in various roles of development. He said that their role can be decisive in the efforts to make people self-reliant by mobilizing financial resources. He congratulated the state government for the rapid economic progress of the state.

Governor Patel was addressing the inaugural session of the Voluntary Conference organized for participation in development by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis at Kushabhau Thakare International Convention Center. In the conference, representatives of voluntary organizations, donor agencies, organizations participating in development works and scholars from 52 districts of the state were present.

Governor Patel said that voluntary organizations should try to change the society by setting their own example. Expecting their cooperation in the control of sickle cell, he said that a large part of about 1.75 core tribal population of the state is suffering from the genetic disease sickle cell. He had first organized a sickle cell check-up camp at the Raj Bhavan. Out of 55, 12 were found to be carriers of sickle cell which shows the gravity of the situation. He informed that fruitful efforts have been made by the central and state governments towards the control of sickle cell anemia disease. The work of disease identification is being done on a large scale in Alirajpur and Jhabua districts. Giving information about the nature, form and control of the disease, he told that in the year 2006, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, at that time extensive work was done on sickle cell control. Referring to his experiences, the Governor said that sickle cell disease has been found mostly in the tribal society in the world. There is no complete cure for the disease so far. But life can be improved by reducing the side effects of the disease at the right time, especially in pregnancy, with necessary treatment and proper lifestyle. Referring to the tribal village of plastic-free Jhabua district, he said that a large section of the society is ready to cooperate in works of service. The need is to give results of work with selflessness and service.

Cooperatives, Public Service Management Minister Arvind Bhadauria said that the government is working through AGPA by analyzing the ground realities of its programmes and schemes. On this basis, in order to solve the problem of malnutrition, arrangements have been made to provide fresh vegetables in nutritious food to mothers, by depositing money in their accounts, and to provide them financial support. For the first time in the country, many works like Public Service Guarantee Act have been done in Madhya Pradesh. He said that today’s young generation is conscious about Deh (body) and Dev (God). Voluntary organizations should come forward in efforts to connect the concern of the country with this consciousness. He said that if we work according to the emotional nationalism of the Indian society, our country will be revered in the world as a world guru.

Padma Mahesh Sharma of voluntary organization Shivganga Jhabua said that the government and society constantly think about good governance. Understanding the nature of society is essential for good governance. The life values of Indian society do not belong to the government dependent society. There is no tendency in the thinking of the society to demand from the government. Demanding lowers our self-esteem. Those who apply are the beneficiaries not benevolents. This is the reason that without the financial support of the government, big social works have been and are being done successfully. He said that life valuesare taught by many elders of the family, sages, saints etc. The government should understand the moral values of the society and what the society wants, it should come forward to cooperate with it.

Amit R. Chandra Chief Managing Director, Bain Capital Private Equity India said that a large part of the population of Madhya Pradesh relies on agriculture business. Voluntary organizations should come forward to encourage innovations to increase agricultural productivity and income. There are many opportunities for development of natural agriculture in the state. If the farmers of the state adopt natural farming, there will be a big change in the economy.

CEO, Azim Premji Foundation Anurag Behar said that the foundation works with the government to improve the public education system. Its first university has been established in Bangalore to give a university look to social service education and now the second one is being established in Bhopal. He said that voluntary organizations should work with the government to contribute to the society without government financial support. It is essential for the organization to have a strong financial and subject-matter expertise base. Better results come only when there is good thinking and intention. On the relationship between the government and the voluntary organizations, he said that the middle level of the government should maintain the continuity of the arrangements by respecting the voluntary organizations to a greater extent. Voluntary organizations should be integrated into their areas of expertise, rather than being included in the government structure. Vice President of AGPA, explained the background of the conference. He said that institutions working in the state in the field of health, education, skill and social service have been invited to the conference. The intention is to meet the challenges of sickle cell, malnutrition, prevention of maternal and child mortality etc. by connecting them to the state’s development.
