Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that Narmada Seva Yatra is a Mahabhiyan to protect human existence in the world. He said that an arrangement would be made for sand mining by scientific method from the rivers in the state.
The state’s mining policy would also be changed. Arrangement would be made to keep the price of sand under control. Chouhan was addressing a programme during the launching of the registration website for people’s participation in the tree plantation in the Narmada Seva Mission. Chouhan dedicated the website and administered the oath to those present on the occasion for tree plantation amidst slogans of Narmada Maiyya. Those persons interested in joining the campaign may get themselves registered on the website.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that balance is must between environment and development. For construction, existence of both sand and rivers is essential. Arrangement would be made to restrict the quantity of mining for silt from rivers only to the required quantity. Sand mining through machines has been totally stopped. Mineral Corporation will now control the mining besides fixing its rate and making sand available at reasonable rates to construct houses for the poor.
System of sand mining through contract will be changed. The mining work will be done through labourers. Women and youth self-help groups will carry out the mining work and will be given the profit from sand marketing in the form of bonus by the Mining Corporation. With this the money that earlier went into the pockets of a few contractors will now go to the families of lakhs of poor labourers.
He said that massive tree plantation will be undertaken every year under the Narmada Seva Mission. Tree plantation will be undertaken in the entire Catchment Area and the Narmada bank on coming July 2. Forest species plants will be planted in Forest and Revenue land and fruit-bearing saplings would be planted on private land. All essential efforts would be made to maintain the trees. Along with this treatment plants would be installed to take the human waste in the opposite direction of Narmada. It would be recycled and released into fields and plantations. Religious heads have even changed the pujan-vidhi. Kund are being prepared for immersing of pujan samagri. Bio farming will be increased.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that the Narmada Seva Abhiyan will be implemented on other rivers also. This will be expanded in other areas of environment. He said that the campaign is for the people and they would continue to move ahead.
Government will extend all the support in the campaign. He said that all should come forward to give ahuti in the mahayagya of river and environment conservation. The Chief Minister urged to create awareness and ensure a huge fair of enthusiasts who would join the July 2 massive tree plantation programme so that the country and the world is spellbound. He said that Narmada Seva Mission is a campaign to save the earth. If the speed with which temperature of the Earth is rising is not controlled and if the tampering with nature is not stopped for materialistic needs, it would be like digging the grave for the future generation.

Forest Minister Dr. Gaurishankar Shejwar said that Narmada Seva Abhiyan has got massive public support because of which it has become the world’s biggest river conservation campaign. He said that Narmada Seva Yatra is a campaign to ensure incessant flow of the water of the Narmada and to maintain the river’s priority. The scientific work of ensuring the incessant flow would be undertaken on July 2 through tree plantation. About 6 crore saplings have been arranged for the plantation. Forest Department has arranged forest trees species and the Horticulture department has made fruit-bearing saplings available at the government and non-government nurseries. The digging work for the plantation will begin in June. All essential work related to protection of trees will be completed. Fencing would be done for protection from animals and choukidars will be deployed. This campaign will create a record of tree plantation in the world.
Jan Abhiyan Parishad Vice Chairman Raghavendra Gautam said that the plantation of 6 crore saplings by people on July 2 will help lay a green cover on Maa Narmada. Vice Chairman Pradeep Pandey proposed the vote of thanks.
