Bhopal 25 April 2022: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that it is our responsibility to make adequate arrangements for drinking water everywhere in the summer season, whether it is city or village. Public Health Engineering Department, Urban Bodies and Village Panchayats should stay geared up to discharge their responsibilities. The places where information about shortage of drinking water is received from newspapers, social media etc, should be resolved immediately. Chief Minister Chouhan had reviewed the drinking water management in the state this morning at the Chief Minister's residence. He again reviewed the drinking water schemes of the state in the evening. Chief Minister Chouhan said that where the works of any scheme are incomplete, they should be completed immediately. Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development Ramkhelawan Patel, Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Brijendra Singh Yadav and Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains and senior officials were present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Chouhan discussed with the officials of Public Health Engineering, Panchayat and Rural Development, Energy and Urban Development Department about the supply of drinking water at different places of the state. It was told that there are 5 lakh 57 thousand hand pumps and 16 thousand 915 tap water connections in rural areas. In rural areas, 95.80% hand pumps are in working condition. In view of the summer season, the staff of Public Health Engineering Department is active.

Departmental and outsourced staff are working for the continuous operation of the hand pumps. In the event of falling water level, necessary arrangements will be made for the hand pump with the help of motor pump so that the supply of drinking water remains uninterrupted. More than 2 thousand single phase motor pumps are available in the state. Grievance Redressal Cell has been constituted for hand pump repairing work in all the districts.

Chief Minister Chouhan directed to maintain registers for complaints about drinking water problems in district, janpad and village panchayat offices. He said that a mobile team should be constituted at the block level to repair hand pumps. To solve the drinking water problem in summer, the work should be completed expeditiously by setting a target of installing 5000 new hand pumps.
