Natural Farming Will Be Done in Madhya Pradesh on Gujarat Model: Chief Minister Chouhan

Bhopal 27 May 2022: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the ancient method of agriculture, natural farming, preserves the natural form of the land. This type of agriculture does not use chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Therefore, eco-friendly and natural farming based on indigenous cow dung and cow urine will be promoted in Madhya Pradesh.

In the first meeting of the newly formed Natural Agriculture Development Board held in Mantralaya today, Chief Minister Chouhan said that the works related to natural agriculture in Madhya Pradesh should be conducted on the Gujarat pattern. The Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, had come to Bhopal on April 13 and had given detailed information about the importance of natural farming in public programmes and workshops. Acharya Devvrat has also made successful experiment of natural farming. The entire action plan should be implemented as per the guidance given by him. Chief Minister Chouhan said that the works of the first phase of Prakritik Krishi Vikas Yojana (natural agriculture development scheme) should be started in the state. After the states of Haryana and Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh has constituted Natural Agriculture Board. The Chief Minister is the chairman of this board.

Finance Minister Jagdish Deora, Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel, Minister of State for Horticulture and Food Processing Bharat Singh Kushwaha participated virtually. Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture Ajit Kesari, Additional Chief Secretary Horticulture and Animal Husbandry JN Kansotiya and Agriculture Production Commissioner Shailendra Singh and concerned officers were present.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that farmers were earlier urged for registration for natural farming. This was followed by an encouraging response from the farmers. The farmers who are serious about natural farming should be given the facility to get registered by May 31. So far, about 25 thousand farmers in the state have shown interest in natural farming and have got registration done for it. Chief Minister Chouhan directed that natural farming should be made mandatory at the level of agricultural universities. Chief Minister Chouhan directed to give priority to natural farming over 5 km area on both sides of Narmada river. He directed to prepare a time bound programme.

Chief Minister Chouhan instructed that the work of natural farming will start in 5710 villages of the state. In the first phase, the target is to select 100 villages in each district. Responsibility will be fulfilled by marking 20 villages each by motivator. Maximum villages will be in Indore district. 610 villages of Indore district are ready for natural farming. District level staff of ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency) from Agriculture Department will be used for natural farming. Chief Minister Chouhan said that at present natural farming is being done in some villages of some districts. These also include Narmadapuram and Narsinghpur districts. According to the work being done here, expand natural farming to other villages. Chief Minister Chouhan said that a training schedule should be prepared for the motivators who will give training for natural farming. Action should also be completed to engage the staff of the ATMA in this work.

More than 10 lakh have received training

To take advantage of the knowledge and experience of the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, agricultural scientists, agricultural economists and farmers of the state attended the state level workshop on zero budget natural farming method in Bhopal. This workshop took place on 13th April. A total of 10.65 lakh participants got the benefit of this training virtually in the state. After this, from May 18 to 20, the Government of Gujarat, with the help of master trainers, organized training camps in 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh and trained about 3 thousand officers and field staff of Agriculture Department and 6 thousand 247 farmers as master trainers. It was informed that farmers have come forward for natural farming in an area of ​​7.26 lakh hectares at present. In each district, motivational masters will play the role of trainers. The area under natural farming will be determined from the upcoming Rabi season in Madhya Pradesh and farmers will be motivated for the same.

People's representatives and farmers of Madhya Pradesh will go to see natural farming

Chief Minister Chouhan said that people's representatives, farmers and concerned officers of Madhya Pradesh will visit Haryana and Gujarat to see the successful experiments of natural farming. If natural farming is taking place anywhere other than these states, then its study tour will be organised. The results of Acharya Devvrat's work are in front of everyone. It is better to follow them. The financial assistance received from the Indian Natural Farming System Government of India will be used for the development of natural farming.
