About Halloween
Halloween, or Samhain ( pronounced /ˈsɑːwɪn/ ) as it was originally called, was a Celtic holiday celebrated in Ireland to mark the end of summer and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. When the great potato famine of 1846 struck, many Irish families immigrated to America and brought their Samhain celebrations with them. Halloween became popular in America in the early 1900s. Now families enjoy this popular fall holiday with spooky and sweet surprises, thanks to Irish folklore and pagan traditions.-Windowtonews
