France asks its citizens to avoid Afghanistan

Paris Feb 2 (IANS) France has asked its citizens notably journalists to avoid going to Afghanistan where the security situation "remains of particular concern".

The French Foreign Ministry classified the entire Afghan territory including Kabul as a "red zone" and called on French citizens on Thursday to avoid going there Xinhua news agency reported.

The ministry "recalls that the deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan poses serious risks for journalists who work there".

A new wave of violence has rocked Afghanistan with deadly terrorist attacks claimed by the Taliban striking the capital Kabul in recent weeks.
