Angkor Wat park earns $62.5 million from ticket sales

Phnom Penh : Revenue from ticket sales to foreigners visiting Cambodias famed Angkor Wat archaeological park reached $62.5 million in 2016, a 4.21 per cent rise year-on-year, a statement said on Monday. The ancient site welcomed almost 2.2 million foreign tourists last year, up 4.63 per cent from 2015, Xinhua news agency cited the Angkor Enterprise as saying. The largest source of tourists were China, South Korea and the US. Located in northwest Cambodias Siem Reap province, the Angkor park, inscribed on Unescos World Heritage List in 1992, is the kingdoms top tourist destination. The Angkor Enterprise announced in August that ticket prices for foreigners would be increased from February 1, 2017. The entrance fee for a one-day visit to the site will be raised to $37, from the current $20. The price for a three-day visit will be increased to $62, from the current $40, and for a week-long visit, the ticket will cost $72, from the current $60.-Agency
