Suspect in journalist's murder not to get immunity: Malta PM

Valletta, Nov 30 (IANS) Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has said a suspect in the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia will not be granted immunity to reveal what he knows about the case.Businessman Yorgen Fenech, has been released on police bail and remains under strict supervision, had requested a presidential pardon in exchange for information, reported BBC.Fenech appeared in court on Friday to argue the chief investigator of the case, Keith Arnaud, should be removed.Fenech's lawyers argue that Arnaud should be removed, due to alleged ties to Muscat and Keith Schembri, the prime minister's former aide who is allegedly linked to the killing.Schembri resigned last week as chief of staff to the prime minister and was arrested on Tuesday.Fenech has filed a request for President George Vella, and not the cabinet, to consider his request for a pardon, alleging a conflict of interest.The prime minister has previously said he will only step down when those who ordered the killing are identified.Caruana Galizia, an anti-corruption activist, was killed by a car bomb in 2017.
