Burundi to host 8th EAC Oil and Gas Conference

Rabat June 5 (IANS/MAP) Burundi will host the 8th East African Oil and Gas Conference from June 7 to 9 Minister of Energy and Mines Como Manirakiza said on Monday.

These regional conferences provide an opportunity for the governments of member states of the East African Community (EAC) and the oil companies to discuss the development strategies of the oil industry in East Africa an official said.

The meetings also provide an opportunity for regional oil companies to promote their oil and gas products and technologies in order to contribute to energy and gas efficiency and growth in the region the official added.

The East African Community comprises six member states -- Kenya Tanzania and Uganda which were founded in 2000 while Burundi and Rwanda joined the regional grouping in 2007. South Sudan for its part joined the community in 2016.
