OIC denounces Israels closure of Al Aqsa Mosque

Riyadh July 24 (IANS) The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has denounced on Monday Israel s closure of East Jerusalem s Al-Aqsa Mosque and installation of metal detectors at the site.

The OIC emergency meeting in a statement on Al-Aqsa crisis decried all punitive measures enforced by Israel since July 14 particularly the closure of the mosque and ban on prayers according to Xinhua news agency.

The OIC rejected all measures imposed by Israel on Al Quds -- occupied East Jerusalem -- and the holy mosque saying Israel was attempting to change the historical status of the city and Al-Aqsa.

Israel has no legal sovereignty over Al Quds and the Islamic and Christian sanctities as stipulated by all international documents and resolutions it said.

The statement called on Israel to revise all illegal measures imposed on Al Quds warning it of danger to provoke sentiment of Muslims.
