US threats of military intervention in Venezuela unacceptable: Lavrov

Moscow Aug 16 (IANS) Russia s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday described the threats of a military intervention in Venezuela made by US President Donald Trump as "unacceptable".

Lavrov was at a joint press conference in Moscow following bilateral talks with his Bolivian counterpart Fernando Huanakuni Mamani as he criticised recent comments by Trump regarding a possible US military intervention in the South American country Efe news reported.

"We are united in the need to overcome the existing disagreements in the country by peaceful means through a nationwide dialogue as soon as possible without any external pressure not to mention the unacceptability of the threats of military intervention in the internal affairs of this country " Lavrov said.

Trump on Friday had said that the US had many options for Venezuela "including a possible military option if necessary".

"Venezuela is a mess. It s a very dangerous mess and a very sad situation " Trump added.
