US soldier killed in Afghanistan

Kabul Aug 17 (IANS) A US service member who was injured in a security operation in eastern Afghanistan has died the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission said on Thursday.
"The service member has died as a result of wounds suffered on Wednesday during a joint operation with US and Afghan Forces in eastern Afghanistan " the mission said in a statement.
The statement added US and Afghan forces were also injured during the operation targeting the Islamic State terror group reports Xinhua news.
The service member has not yet been identified.
