Trump taps state legislator as US envoy to OAS
Washington Oct 26 (IANS) President Donald Trump on Thursday nominated Carlos Trujillo a member of the Florida House of Representatives to represent the US before the Organization of American States (OAS) the White House said.
Trujillo 34 was first elected to Florida s lower house in 2010 and currently chairs the chamber s budget committee. His nomination requires Senate confirmation Xinhua reported.
The Republican politician represents Florida s majority-Hispanic 115th District.
Trujillo has combined his service in the legislature with practicing law. He spent four years as a prosecutor with the state attorney s office in Miami-Dade before becoming in 2011 a founding partner of the law firm Trujillo Vargas Gonzalez and Hevia.
A graduate of Spring Hill College and Florida State College of Law Trujillo speaks fluent Spanish.
If confirmed by the Senate Trujillo will replace Kevin Sullivan a career diplomat who has been the acting representative to the OAS since July 2016.
