Fake notes of Rs 9.7 lakh face value seized in Bengal, one held

Kolkata Nov 7 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 9.68 lakh in West Bengal s Malda district and arrested one person in this connection a BSF official said on Tuesday.



All notes were of Rs 2 000 denomination the official said.

Acting on a tip-off the BSF troopers laid traps at three locations in the Golapgunj area of Malda district on Monday evening and arrested a suspect with four bundles of FICN from Kamat ITI Crossing in the area.

"The troopers arrested a person named Iqramul Seikh (50) and recovered 485 fake Rs 2 000 notes of the face value of Rs 9.68 hidden in his cloths " R.P.S. Jaswal Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF s South Bengal Frontier said in a press release.

"The person was arrested and seized FICN was handed over to the nearby Kaliachak Police Station for further action " he added.

The South Bengal Frontier of BSF has seized FICN of the face value of Rs 53.56 lakh and arrested seven smugglers so far this year.
