Ranchi court gives death for minor s rape, murder

Ranchi Feb 12 (IANS) A Ranchi court on Monday awarded death sentence to a person convicted for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in 2014 a lawyer said.
The court of Shivapal Singh pronounced the quantum of sentence on Monday on Gandhi Oraon who was convicted for the crime on January 31.
Oraon a bus driver s assistant raped the minor at the Khadgara bus stand on March 21 2014 after luring her away by promising her a chocolate.
As the girl kept crying after the rape he crushed her head with a big stone. The body was found the next day.
The girl s father lodged an FIR against Oraon who was arrested while he was trying to flee to West Bengal. The accused has been in jail since 2014.
