Three IEDs recovered from busy Jharkhand road

Ranchi Feb 19 (IANS) Three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted under a tarred road were recovered by the security forces in Jharkhand s Gumla district on Monday police said.

According to the police two wires were spotted at the road near Anjandham in Gumla district. The villagers informed the police who reached the spot with JCB machines and a bomb disposal squad.

The tarred road was dug up with the JCB machines and three IEDs each weighing 15 kg were found planted under the road surface. They were connected to one another with wires. The bombs have since been defused.

The police said Maoist guerrillas might have planted the IEDs when the road was constructed.

Anjandham a tourist place is connected by this road and there is regular movement of VIPs and security forces on this route.

In Maoist-affected areas IEDs are routinely planted under tarred roads at the time of their construction and are detonated when vehicles of security forces pass.
