Withdraw order regarding questions on reserved subjects, Speaker tells L-G

New Delhi March 28 (IANS) Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has written to Lt Governor Anil Baijal to ask him to withdraw an order that the house presiding officer cannot accept questions on reserved subjects informed sources said on Wednesday.

Goel told reporters that he would write to the Speakers of the state Assemblies Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the President on the issue if the Lt Governor did not withdraw his order in two-three days.

On Monday Goel had said that the Lt Governor had written a letter to the effect that the Speaker cannot accept questions in the Assembly regarding reserved subjects like law land and services.

Baijal had taken the opinion of the Legal Affairs Department of the central government on the issue.

"The officers should realise that legislation on reserved subjects and seeking replies on matters of public interest are two different issues. Officers are duty-bound to provide replies to all questions admitted (by the Assembly) " the Speaker contended.
