Tribal militant killed in Manipur gunfight

Imphal June 11 (IANS) A militant of the United Tribal Liberation Army was killed in a gunfight with the Assam Rifles in Manipur s Jiribam district on Sunday night police said on Monday.
Two other militants were injured in the firefight at Khuram in the district and have been arrested said police sources citing a report lodged at the Jiri police station by personnel of the 37 Assam Rifles.
According to the report an M-16 rifle was recovered from the dead militant who is yet to be identified and a Chinese-made 9 mm pistol was also found from the injured militants who have been admitted to a hospital.
Police sources said that combing operations are being conducted in the nearby mountains and rain forests to track down the militants who had managed to escape.
