Gunfight breaks out in J&K

Srinagar June 19 (IANS) A gunfight started on Tuesday evening between hiding militants and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir s Pulwama district police said.
Police said following intelligence inputs about a group of militants hiding in the area security forces comprising the army s counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles Central Reserve Police Force and the Special Operations Group of the state police launched a cordon and search operation in Tral area of Pulwama.
"As the security forces tightened the cordon hiding militants fired at them triggering the gunfight " police said.
Meanwhile protests started in the area with stone pelters trying to disrupt the operation.
Reports said security forces are using tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
