Tuesday - July 24, 2018 2:23 pm , Category : INDIA

July 24 (WTN) Government says that in tenure of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, Indians' deposits in Swiss banks have come down by 80%. This amount decreased 34.5% in 2017 compared to 2016. Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the figures of Swiss bank last month were misunderstood.

Last month, Switzerland's Central Banking Authority Swiss National Bank (SNB) report claimed that the amount of deposits in Swiss banks increased by 50.2% in 2017. By the end of 2017 there were about Rs 7,000 crore of Indians deposited. During the first three years of the Modi government, Indians' money in Swiss banks was constantly falling. But for the first time in the fourth year i.e. 2017 this amount has increased by 50%. This was the fastest increase of 13 years. Earlier in 2004, Indians' money in Swiss banks was up 56%. Goyal said that the increase in the amount of 50% deposited in the Swiss banks report was wrong because it included liabilities, amount of branches of Swiss banks present in India and inter-bank transactions.

Swiss National Bank (SNB) issued a figure under which it was revealed that in the last one year, the deposits of Indians in the Swiss National Bank have increased by 50 per cent and that is up to 1 billion Swiss francs or Rs 7,000 crore Indian Rupees. The data that was first released was included in the transaction which was done through the branch of Indian banks and which has been transferred from branches of Nationalized Bank of India to Swiss Bank branches.
