SIT questioned Amit Shah's statement to defense Kodnai in Gujrat Naroda Patia riot case

In 2002 Gujrat Naroda Patia village massacre case, BJP president Amit Shah could be in trouble. Special Investigation Team (SIT) has not considered the statement of the BJP president in the defense of the main accused and former BJP minister Maya Kodnani of this case. SIT constituted by the Supreme Court told the special court on hearing that Amit Shah's statement should not be considered.
Special Public Prosecutor Gaurang Vyas told Justice MK Dave that Shah's statement in the defense of Kodnani has no meaning because it was recorded 15 years after the incident. He said that statement is also not reliable because it only given to support Maya Kodnani and other MLA’s. Vyas argued that Amit Shah Presence in Sola Civil Hospital is suspected while the accused Babu Bajrangi and Jaideep Patel had highlighted Shah's presence. At the same time, no other accused mentioned the presence of Kodnani in Sola Civil Hospital. The next hearing in the case will be on Friday.
In September last year, Shah was presented as a witness in the defense of Kodnani. He had requested the court that he should be allowed permission so that he can make his statement in favor of Kodnani that she was not present on incident spot and at that time she was in the assembly. Shah had told the court that he had met Kodnani in Gandhinagar in Gujarat Assembly and later on the day of the riot he met Kodnani at Solala Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad.
What is Naroda Patia massacre case?
Naroda Patiya massacre case is one of the nine cases of communal riots in the year 2002 in Gujrat, whose investigation is undergoing by SIT formed by Supreme Court. Kodnani was jailed for 28 years in the Naroda Patiya riots case, in which 96 people were killed. However, in April this year, the Gujarat High Court acquitted him.
