Maoist killed in Chhattisgarh gunfight

Raipur Aug 3 (IANS) One Maoist was gunned down and two policemen received injuries in a gunfight on Friday at Basaguda village in Chhattisgarh s Bijapur district police said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (South Bastar Range) Ratan Lal Dangi said the Maoists opened fire at weekly Friday market in Basaguda.
"Five-six Maoists opened fire in the market in which two policemen Umesh Durgam and Shankar Punem sustained injuries " Dangi said.
In the retaliatory fire by the police one Maoist was shot dead.
As the firing began panic gripped the market area and people ran helter-skelter.
Condition of one of the injured policemen is stated to be serious and he is being shifted to Raipur the officer said.
