NDA candidate Harivansh elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman

Harivansh got 125 votes while opposition candidate Hariprasad 105 votes
BJP led NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh, 62 has elected deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha today. In support of the JDU MP Harivansh, 125 votes were cast while 105 votes were cast in support of Congress MP and opposition candidate BK Hariprasad. NDA had 88 Rajya Sabha members and claimed to raise support for 36 more MPs. In this way NDA got 1 vote more than expected with a total of 124 votes. At the same time, the UPA had 47 Rajya Sabha members. With the support of 62 more MPs, it was believed to have collected a total of 109. But its candidate gets less than four votes.

230 Rajya Sabha MPs voted in this election. In this way, 116 votes were necessary for victory. Rajya Sabha Speaker M. Venkaiah Naidu first tried to conduct Dy Chairman election by sound vote. But when there was no consensus, speaker conducts Voting. With the support of 13 AIADMK's and 9 members of the BJD, the claim of Harivansh got stronger. Following the announcement of the results, the leader of the House Arun Jaitley and Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad took Harivansh to their new place of seating. The seat of the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chiarman is kept near the leader of the opposition.
