Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), student leader narrowly survived in a pistol fire in Delhi today’s afternoon. The police recovered a pistol from the spot. Near the Constitutional Club, a organisation ‘United Against Hate’ organized a "Fear of Freedom" program against lynching incidents. Many people including senior advocates Prashant Bhushan, JDU MP Manoj Jha, Rohit Wemulla's mother Radhika were called. Khalid was also present at spot to join the agitation.
According to an eyewitness a young man wearing a white shirt came and pushed and fired on Umar. Khalid fell on the ground in a flurry and the target of the attacker was missed. After this some people tried to catch him. The attacker ran away and the pistol slipped away from his hand. "
The name of Umar Khalid was first reported in the anti-country slogan at JNU in the alleged incident. Student leader Kanhaiya Kumar called it an attempt to suppress the voice.
