PM in Kerala for aerial survey of flood affected areas, Rahul demands to declare National Disaster

PM Narendra Modi announced an immediate flood relief of Rs. 500 crore for the state
Across Kerala heavy rainfall has caused widespread devastation. Kerala is facing the worst flood of 94 years. In the last nine days, about 180 people have died due to heavy rains and floods. While in the monsoon season 324 people have died since May. 3.14 lakh people have been homeless in 12 districts of the state. They are in 1568 relief camps.

PM Narendra Modi arrived in Kerala on Friday late night. A high level meeting with the Chief Minister and the top officials held in Kochi on Saturday morning. Modi also carried out an air survey of flood affected areas. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warning in Tamilnadu and Karnataka along with Kerala till Sunday.

Meanwhile Congress President Rahul Gandhi demanded PM to declare Kerala Flood as National DIsaster. He tweeted saturday morning "Dear PM, Please declare #Kerala floods a National Disaster without any delay. The lives, livelihood and future of millions of our people is at stake".
Earlier yesterday in meeting of National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), It was decided to mobilise additional resources of all agencies including Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to provide the required assistance to Kerala.
