India’s biggest defense deal in the world to be finalise soon

Tuesday - September 4, 2018 10:40 am , Category : INDIA

While on the one side of the Rafael deal, the Congress is attacking on government while on the other side Modi government is going to make another defense deal beyond all these controversies. The government is now planning to buy 114 new fighters aircrafts worth 1.4 lakh crore rupees. It will be the world's biggest defense deal. According to sources, the Air Force has issued initial tender for purchase of billions of dollars. Officials said that with the intention of bringing state-of-the-art defense technology in the recent strategic partnership model, the foreign aircraft manufacturers together with the Indian company will produce fighter planes.

The Air Force is pushing for speeding up the procurement process of the aircraft, referring to the falling capacity of its combat aircraft fleet to eliminate some old planes. This would be the first major deal for the fighter planes after the government canceled the purchase process of 126 medium multi-role fighters 5 years ago by the government. Earlier, the NDA government had signed a deal worth Rs 59,000 crore with the French government for the purchase of 36 Rafael double-engine fighter planes in September 2016.

According to sources in the Ministry of Defense, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will soon approve the deal to buy 114 fighter aircraft. It is expected that the deal will take place next month. Even before this deal, India had made a deal to purchase 136 aircraft, but then India only bought 36 fighter aircraft.
