2007 Hyderabad blasts, after 11 years two convicted, two acquitted

In case of twin bomb blasts in Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park areas of Hyderabad in year 2007, session court adjudicated on Tuesday. Two Indian Mujahideen terrorists Aneek Shafiq Syed and Akbar Ismail Chowdhury were convicted, while Mohammed Sadiq and Ansar Ahmed Shah Sheikh were acquitted in the absence of evidence.
Court decides on the verdict of fifth accused Tariq Anjum will release on September 10, two other accused Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal are absconding in this case. This case was transferred from the court of Nampally to the court located in Cherlapalli Central Jail in June. Session Judge Srinivas Rao had reserved the verdict on August 7 after hearing the arguments of both sides. The blasts took place on August 25, 2007, killed 44 people and 68 were injured.
According to the prosecution, Aneek had placed a bomb in Lumbini Park while Riaj at Gokul Chat. Another bomb was kept by Ismail Chowdhary did not explode and recovered soon after the blasts. Tariq Anjum was accused of sheltering the accused. 32 people died and 47 were injured in the blast near Gokul Chhat. In the blast at the open air theater of Lumbini Park, 12 people were killed and 21 others were injured. In this case, the first arrest took place in January 2009.
