Agusta-Westland Chopper scam case: former AF chief SP Tyagi gets bail

A Delhi court granted bail of former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi and others today in case of money laundering involving AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter scam. Special Judge Arvind Kumar ordered Tyagi and his relatives to pay a one lakh rupees bail amount and the same amount of money as personal bond. Tyagi was granted bail when he physically present before the court after summoned.
The court summoned on July 24 in this case to Agusta Westland, former directors of Finmeccanica Giuseppe Oraşi and Bruno Spagnolini, Tyagi and other accused. The court had directed all the accused to present in the court on Wednesday. Along with this, non-bailable warrants were issued against the Italian middlemen of this case Carlo Gerosa and Guido Hashke and Dubai's businessman Rajeev Saxena.
Apart from these six, the court summoned 28 Indians and foreigners and other companies as accused. These include lawyer Gautam Khaitan, Agusta Westland and its parent company Finmeccanica SPA. The court while taking cognizance of the chargesheet issued directions and said that there is sufficient evidence against the accused in the alleged corruption case of about 20 million euro. Although foreigner’s and companies summoned did not appear before the court on today.
Agusta Westland helicopter scam is related to helicopters being bought by India from Agasta Westland Company. During the UPA-1 government, the purchase of 12 AW -101 helicopters for the VVIP from AgustaWestland was done. This case came to light in 2013-14. In this deal worth 36 hundred crores, many Indian politicians and military officials have serious allegations of bribe from AgustaWestland Company.
