Rafael Deal: SC asked Government to submit deal details in sealed envelope

The Supreme Court today asked the central government to hand over the details of the process of decision on the Rafael deal to the sealed envelope. The bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice SK Kaul and Justice KM Joseph made it clear that in relation to this deal with France Apex court does not want information related to price and technical details of the deal. The bench also clarifies that they are not keeping the allegations leveled in petitions in mind. The court asked the Center to submit the information from the sealed envelope till October 29. The next hearing of this case will be on October 31.

At the same time during the hearing, Government opposed the petitions filed on Rafael deal and said that these petitions have been filed for political gain and hence should be dismissed. The attorney general told the court that Rafael is associated with national security and such issues cannot be reviewed in judicially. At the same time Congress leader and RTI activist Tahasin Poonawala withdrew his PIL filed in connection with the Rafael fighter aircraft deal.
Supreme Court bench is hearing several petitions filed on Rafael on demanding to give instructions on the details of Rafael and the details of comparative prices of the deal during the tenure of UPA and NDA Government in the sealed envelope to the apex court.
