36 people named for 2016 Jeevan Raksha Padak awards

New Delhi: A total of 36 people from 16 states have been named for the 2016 Jeevan Raksha Padak awards, for their meritorious acts in saving several human lives. Seven of them have been named for the honour posthumously.The awards, given in three categories, included five Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, eight Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and 23 Jeevan Raksha Padak awards mentioning names of 28 men, four women and six children. The Home Ministry said Roluahpuii from Mizoram, Shishir Kumar Yadavannavr and Rakesh Kumar C.N. both from Karnataka, Vadmitra Choudhary from Uttar Pradesh and Suresh N.B. from Kerala, have been named for the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak posthumously.

Jeevan Raksha Padak category mentioned the names of Mrigesh Narayan Barua from Assam, C. Gopakumar (posthumous) from Kerala, Govind Laxman Tupe from Maharashtra, Churchill from Mizoram, Bir Bajrangbali Pandey from West Bengal, master Maurice Yengkhom from Manipur, Master Shivansh Singh (posthmous) from Uttar Pradesh.

President Pranab Mukherjee has approved the names of three persons each from Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal for Jeevan Raksha Padak awards, along with two persons from Chhattisgarh and one each from Haryana, Himachal, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya, Telangana, Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir.-Agency
