MiG-21 crashes in Rajasthan, pilot safe (Lead)

Jaipur, March 8 (IANS) A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Bikaner in Rajasthan on Friday. The pilot ejected safely, the Defence Ministry said.An IAF spokesperson said the MiG was on a routine mission and it crashed after getting airborne from Nal, near Bikaner.Ghosh said initial inputs indicated a bird hit after take-off as the likely cause of the accident. A Commission of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident.
