Woman patient gang raped by hospital staff

Meerut, March 25 (IANS) A woman admitted to a private hospital in Meerut was allegedly gang raped by three staffers, police said on Monday.A nurse allegedly abetted the crime, as the woman patient, suffering from a liver ailment, was drugged and put to sleep, after which the three ward boys took turns to rape her inside the intensive care unit (ICU).All the three accused - Vinod, Niyazu and Shadaab - have been arrested, along with the nurse, Laxmi. Ashok Mallik, the hospital owner, has also been questioned, an official said. SP (City) Akhilesh Narayan Singh said an investigation has been ordered into the incident.Officials added that they tried to go through the CCTV footage of the time when the incident took place but the cameras were apparently switched off.
