Tuesday - February 7, 2017 11:10 pm , Category : INDIA
New Delhi:Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a project here for constructing 72 flats for members of Parliament.

The flats, being constructed at the Bishamber Das Marg here, will have several green features, including solar power generation capacity of 120kw, recycling of waste water, rain water harvesting and sewage treatment plant, apart from tree plantation within the campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahajan said the new accommodation will go a long way in meeting shortage of residential facilities for parliamentarians.

She also called upon the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and other agencies to make efforts for timely completion of the project.

She named the three blocks of the project as Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati.

House Committee Chairman Suresh C. Angadi said new flats are being constructed after demolition of eight bungalows.

The project, he said, involves construction of three blocks with 12 storeys each, besides basement for parking.

The complex will also have 144 staff quarters, roof-top lounge, community hall, gymnasium and cafeteria.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar was among those present. IANS
