Army to construct Bailey bridge in Kerala

Friday - February 10, 2017 4:06 pm , Category : INDIA

Kottarakara: In a first of its kind effort in Kerala, the Indian Army will build a Bailey bridge in Enathu, an army official said on Friday.

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar has responded positively to the State’s plea to construct a temporary bailey bridge adjacent to the concrete bridge across the Kallada river at Enathu on MC Road.

Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran has sought Mr. Parikkar’s intervention for construction of a bailey bridge by the Army since the 18-year-old bridge was closed on January 10 after cracks were detected on it.

Officials of the Army Engineering Wing will visit the spot and look into the feasibility of erecting the bridge.

Mr. Sudhakaran said top Army officials from Bengaluru would reach Enathu on Friday for spot inspection. Officials of the Pangode military camp would accompany them. He said the Chief Engineer, PWD, Roads and Bridges, and officials would reach Enathu. IANS
