Kolkata Police chief files defamation case against BJP leader

Saturday - February 18, 2017 11:39 pm , Category : INDIA

Kolkata: Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has filed a criminal defamation case against BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya for alleging the top cop had a role in destroying evidence related to the multi-billion rupee Saradha scam.

Kumar filed a petition at the city sessions court on Friday, sources said. The court has asked the BJP leader to appear on March 7.

Vijayvargiya, had on January 4 accused Kumar of not taking adequate steps against several Trinamool Congress activists who attacked the state BJP head office in Central Kolkata and said they would ask for a CBI probe against the officer.

"The city Police Commissioner did not take any steps against the thousands of agitators that attacked our party office yesterday. He is the same person who allegedly destroyed important documents related to Saradha scam. We will ask for a CBI probe against his involvement," he had said.
