Man dies in hospital after jumping in front of Metro train (Lead)

Kolkata, Feb 19 (IANS) A day after a woman took her life by jumping in front of a Metro train along with her child here, a man committed suicide in a similar manner on Sunday.

A man jumped on the metro track at Girish Park Metro station at around 10.45 a.m. on Sunday while a Kabi Subhash (New Garia region) station bound train was entering the platform. As a result, the metro service had to be stopped on emergency basis, an official said.

According to sources, the man succumbed to his injuries later at a city hospital.

Metro services were partially hampered for more than an hour due to the incident.

The metro service was halted between Dumdum and Maidan metro station. However, the trains were plying between Maidan to Kabi Subhas station on both directions. The full service resumed at 11.50 a.m., the official said.
