UP s Sahibabad sees highest victory margin, Manipur s Sagolband lowest

New Delhi March 11 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh s Sahibabad assembly seat saw the winner with highest victory margin of 1 50 685 votes while the winning candidate at Manipur s Sagolband seat scraped through with a small margin of 19 votes -- lowest in all 689 seats in five states that went to polls.

Five seats in Uttar Pradesh -- Kunda Mathura Noida Rath and Sahibabad -- witnessed victory with a margin of over one lakh votes.

Sahibabad topped the list in terms of victory margins where BJP s Sunil Kumar Sharma with 2 62 741 defeated Congress s Amarpal who polled 1 12 056 votes.

In Rath BJP s Manisha Anuragi defeated Congress Gayadeen Anuragi by a margin of 1 04 643 votes while Rajnath Singh s son Pankaj Singh contesting from Noida on the BJP ticket defeated Samajwadi Party (SP) s Sunil Choudhary by 1 04 643 votes.

BJP s Shrikant Sharma also won with a huge margin of 1 01 161 votes from Mathura.

Among the lowest-margin wins three seats witnessed victory with winner-loser differences remaining in double digits.

Of the three Sagolband saw the closest fight as Indian National Congress s candidate Rajkumar Imo Singh who polled 9 211 votes defeated BJP s Khwairakpam Loken Singh who bagged 9 192 votes.

Goa s Cuncolim and Manipur s Wangoi were the other two seats with two-digit victory margins.

Here Congress candidate Clafasio Dias beat Joaquim Alemao an Independent candidate by a margin of 33 votes in Cuncolim while in Wangoi Congress Oinam Lukhoi Singh defeated National People s Party s candidate Khuraijam Loken Singh by 36 votes.

In Uttar Pradesh s Dumariyaganj BJP s Raghvendra Pratap Singh defeated Saiyada Khatoon of Bahujan Samaj Party by a small margin of 171 votes.

Uttarakhand s Jageshwar saw a close fight between Congress Govind Singh Kunjwal and BJP s Subhash Pandey. Kunjwal defeated the nearest rival by 399 votes.

A close contest is going in Lohaghat between BJP s Puran Singh Fartyal and Khushal Singh of the Congress when the last updates came in. Fartyal was leading with 148 votes.

The highest margin of victory in Uttarakhand was recorded in Raipur constituency . BJP s candidate Umesh Sharma Kau defeated Congress nominee Prabhu Lal Bahuguna by 36 771 votes here.

Punjab Congress chief ministerial candidate Amarinder Singh s winning margin was the highest in all the 117 seats in the state. He won Patiala seat by a margin of 52 407 votes by defeating Aam Aadmi Party candidate Balbir Singh.

After Amarinder Singh Congress candidate and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu won the polls with the second-highest margin of 42 809 votes in the state.

Congress candidate from Fazilka Davinder Singh Ghubaya won with lowest margin of 265 votes -- lowest winning margin in the state -- defeated the nearest rival BJP s Surjit Jayani.

In Manipur Mao witnessed the highest victory margin. Naga Peoples Front s Losii Dikho defeated BJP s Woba Joram with 15 414 votes.

In Goa Marcaim was the seat with highest-margin victory where Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party s Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar defeated his nearest rival from BJP Pradeep Pundalik Shet with a margin of 13 680 votes. Dhavalikar polled 17 093 votes while Pundalik managed to get only 3 413 votes.

The results of assembly elections in five states -- Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand Punjab Manipur and Goa -- were announced on Saturday.
