Facilitation Centre for Carpet and Hosiery

The Government has undertaken development of two mega clusters for development of carpet sector in Mirzapur – Bhadohi (Year 2011-12) and Srinagar (Year 2011-12). Rs. 15.88 crores and Rs. 32.99 crores have been spent respectively so far, on these mega clusters, for activities such as training weavers and distributions of looms etc. 18,599 weavers have been trained for carpet sector in these two mega clusters. 8,150 looms have been distributed to carpet weavers. New skill development programme “Pushtaini” has been designed for training and upgradation of skills for traditional weavers. Participation of carpet exporters is supported in a number of national and international marketing events. 

The above information was given by the Minister of State, Textiles, Shri Ajay Tamta today, in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question. -WTN
