SGPC Prez warns against policy to take over management of Hry gurdwaras

Amritsar, Sep 21 (IANS) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has warned that if any policy of forcible possession is adopted for taking over management of Gurdwara Sahibs in Haryana, the state government will be responsible for the same.Dhami's statement came a day after the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the constitutional validity of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara (Management) Act, 2014, allowing the formation of a separate committee other than the SGPC to manage the affairs of gurdwaras in the state.SGPC President said that the Supreme Court judgment in the case of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara (Management) Act, 2014, does not mean that there is no legal recourse left after the same. He said the legal remedies in this case are still present, under which, the SGPC is going to file a review petition in the Supreme Court and the discussions are also being held with legal experts.He said that the government's policy of forcibly taking possessions of the management of gurdwaras would not be right and we are getting information that the BJP government of Haryana is following this policy.Dhami said that on Wednesday, he tried to meet Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, but unfortunately he did not consider it necessary to meet. "This shows how conspiracies against Sikh institutions are going on in the country," stated Dhami.SGPC President said that the Sikhs will not allow any such move to break the community, divide them and weaken the Sikh power and the governments should also refrain from interfering in Sikh issues. He said that the Haryana government should not proceed under the policy of forcible possessions of Gurdwara Sahibs.
