Beed (Maharashtra) June 11 (IANS) At least nine passengers were killed and 20 others injured on Sunday when a speeding bus coming to Beed from Mumbai plunged over 100 feet into a ditch police said.

According to the police the driver lost control of the bus at around 5 a.m. near Ambhora. A majority of the deceased were from Beed.

Officials said it will be probed if the driver was inebriated or fell asleep at the wheel.

The dead have been identified as Rashid Abdul Qureshi 60 Atik Munawar Khan 32 Sajerao Laxman Pawar 30 Yogesh Gautam Takle 30 Chand Pasha Tajuddin Pathan 66 (all from Beed) Asima Nazim Syed and Mehrunissa Amin Patel 35 of Mumbai Bahadur Ismail Pathan 65 of Latur and Sunil Malhari Kumbharkar 45 of Pune.

The seriously injured were taken to Ahmednagar for treatment.
