BJP s Assam alliance partners support Kovind for President

Guwahati June 20 (IANS) The BJP s alliance partners in Assam - the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) - have also decided to extend their support to the NDA s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind it was announced on Tuesday.

Our party has named Ram Nath Kovind as the Presidential candidate considering his distinguished political career. He also represents a backward community and we appealed all the 126 legislators in Assam to cast their votes to him said state Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma a press conference.

Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta of the AGP and BPF spokesman Biswajit Daimary were also present.

Our party as a partner of the NDA government in Delhi and as a part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) alliancer has already decided to support the NDA s candidate for the Presidential polls said Mahanta.

Similarly Biswajit Daimary also announced his party s decision to support the NDA candidate and appealed to the other opposition parties to support the NDA s candidate.
