11-year-old boy falls in pit in Delhi, dies (Lead)

New Delhi June 21 (IANS) An 11-year-old boy died after falling into a rainwater-filled pit in the Rohini area in north Delhi police said on Wednesday.

Abdul Khalid a fifth grader of Mangolpuri area was playing with his friends in the DDA District Park in Avantika when the accident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

When he failed to return home his father Mustaq went looking for him around 7 p.m. and found he had drowned.

His friends knew he had fallen into the pit but didn t tell us. It was only around 7.30 p.m. that they told me about the incident Mustaq told IANS.

Mustaq along with one of Khalid s friends went to the park and fished out Khalid and rushed him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered and autopsy done. Prima facie it appears to be a case of drowning Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal said.
